Caleb John Friesen arrived 17 days early on February 11th, 2010. We are very excited to have our little man finally with us. He has brought so much to our lives already, it completely blows me away.
Wednesday night I was feeling really uncomfortable, but wasn't thinking that I would have my little guy the next day. I didn't think it was the beginning of labour. I went to bed, slept uncomfortably and woke up at 2:50am with really bad back pain. So, I stood up and that's when my water broke (or so I thought...I actually thought I peed myself at first). I woke Mike up and we started to time the contractions. They were very irregular, so we weren't really sure what we should do. I decided to call Labour & Delivery and see what they would recommend. The nurse told me that if I wasn't 3-4 cm dilated, they would send my home. The contractions were getting stronger, so we decided to head to the hospital. We arrived around 4 am and headed up to Labour & Delivery where it turned out that I was 3 cm dilated. Around 6am, we called Jen, our Doula (who by the way is absolutely an amazing Doula) Labour progressed steadily throughout the day. I am pretty darn proud of myself that I only had a shot of morphine to take the edge off the pain. Around 2 or 3pm, I was fully dilated and FINALLY allowed to push. I began to push and push and push and push and push...after about 1 hour, my doctor didn't think I was going to be able to push him out. I was given the option of forceps and the vacuum or a c-section. By this time, I had nothing left in me to push anymore and it was guaranteed that Caleb would come out. We opted for the c-section.
Caleb was born at 6:11pm Thursday, February 11th, 2010. He weighed 7lbs, 5oz and measured 20 inches long.
We are so blessed to have Caleb join our family. My heart swells every time I look into those beautiful eyes of his (well, when they're open) or look at his sweet little face.
